A JEAN user is an individual or organisation whose contact details are maintained in the JEAN database and used in appropriate outputs, such as invoices. If you have no need of such a facility then a default user will be created automatically and nothing needs to be done. If, on the other hand, you would like a number of people to have access to the JEAN database with their own private data and password protected then this can also be set up easily.
Some users may be designated as Administrators. An Administrator has the option of running JEAN in Administration mode, which gives many extra menu items for maintenance of the JEAN database. The particular user is indicated in the command or as part of a shortcut by the option -user=userName. If this option is not used then a default user name, that used in the local Operating System, is used. In addition the option -admin can be used; if the user is an Administrator then JEAN will run in Administration mode; if the user is not an Administrator it will be ignored.
A user can be created in two ways. An Administrator may use the Create New User menu item. The JEAN User Wizard is then used to create the new user. When done this way the new user can be made an Administrator if required. Alternatively if the command or shortcut specifies a user that does not exist then the first time it is used, the JEAN User Wizard will appear to create the user. This way it is not possible to create a new Administrator. The details of the user may then be later modified by an Administrator.
