System Requirements.
OpenJean is a pure Java program. It will run on any platform that has a Java 1.4.2 or higher Runtime Environment installed. The following list is not exhaustive. It is those Operating Systems that we know to satisfy this requirement. Those in bold are ones on which openJean has been tested.
- Windows 98(SE), ME, NT4 (SP6a), 2000 Professional (SP3), 2000
Server, Server 2003, XP (Home and Professional).
A Pentium 166MHz or faster processor with at least 64 megabytes of physical RAM is required. Around 200MB of disk space may be required during installation of Java. An empty openJean installation occupies about 2MB of disk space, but will obviously increase in size as information is added. As a rough guide an installation of openJean Multimedia containing around 10,000 nodes occupies about 47MB of disk space. - MacOSX
- Linux (all varieties)
- Solaris
OpenJean requires a pre-installed Java Runtime Environment (JRE). Most Microsoft Windows based computers do not have Java already installed, or have an old unsuitable version. In order for openJean to function correctly you should download and install the most recent version, which may be obtained from http://java.sun.com/j2se/index.jsp.
For windows users, in the bin directory of the openJean installation, there is a program javacheck.exe. It will check if a suitable version of Java is installed, and if not download and start the installation of a suitable version. Mac users should have Java already installed, otherwise contact Apple.
